Solve the quadratic function x2 + 4x + 8 = 0 for x. Answer x = 2 ± 2i x = 2 and x = 4 x = -2 ± 2i x = 2 or x = -2
@abcabc
is that an x "squared" (exponent)?
Yup!
If you're in a rush, I'd eliminate the second and fourth choice because substituting their values in leads to a false statement. Then use the quadratic formula to see whether the first or third choice is right. Hope that helps!
First one i think @abcabc check
Another quick hint without having to do all the math. :-) You know the quadratic formula has -b as the first term and a 2a in the denominator. Well, I can look at the b term here, and see that it's 4. So it's negative would be -4. Then the 2a term will still be positive, so I know the -b term in the answer will be negative (-4 divided by a positive will give me a positive), so I think the right answer is the third choice because it has that '-2' term in it. Hope that helps!
