What is 1+tan^2x=?

OpenStudy (slaaibak):

Nope other way around.. \[\tan^2 x + 1 = \sec^2x\]

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

I knew it i was making some mistake!

hero (hero):

\[\tan^2x + 1 = \frac{\sin^2x}{\cos^2x} + \frac{\cos^2x}{\cos^2x} = \frac{1}{cos^2x} = \sec^2x\]
