How do you calculate tension force?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A string hangs from a horizontal rod. A spring weighing 0.7 Newtons is then attached to the spring ( the spring hangs vertically). The spring constant is k = 2.5N/cm. An object is then suspended from the spring, causing the spring to stretch 1.7 cm. I calculated that the object being hung on the spring is approx. 4.25 Newtons. What is the numerical value of the tension force in the string? 4.95 Newtons?
