A potato is put into an oven that has been heated to 350°F. Its temperature as a function of time is given by T(t) = a(1 - e^-kt) + b. The potato was 50°F when it was first put into the oven. What is the value of b in this context? Explain.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

b is initial temp of potato because when t=0 , (1-e^0) =0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!do you know when the potato will reach 150°F? @dumbcow i'd really appreciate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dumbcow

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

you need to know what k is first... then set equation equal to 150 and solve for t by the way, a = 300

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry im completely confused, how do i do that?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

no you have to be given what the "k" value is.... the only way to solve for it is maybe if you are given some points ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is all i'm given :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there a way to solve it without that?
