if you drop a tennis ball and throw a tennis ball, which one will hit the ground first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

throw the tennis ball directly downward? or throw it upward and let it fall?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you throw it upward, then the one just dropped will hit first (because the throwing it upward means it has to reach a maximum height before coming down). If you throw it downward, the tennis ball will have not only gravity acting on it, but the force of the throw as well. So it would hit the ground first.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

If you throw a tennis ball horizontally, and drop a tennis ball from the same height, they'll both hit the ground at the same time. The horizontal velocity does not have any effect on the vertical velocity or acceleration, both tennis balls accelerate toward the earth at 9.8m/s^2, and both started with an initial vertical velocity of 0 m/s.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you throw both of them horizontly both will take same time to hit'coz there downward element of speed is same
