solve 6x^2-7x-3=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use Quadratic Formula

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

or this one can be factored: you need 2 numbers whose product is -3 and when these are combined with the factors of 6 add up to -7

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

3 * -3 = -9 2 * 2 = 2 -9 + 2 = -7

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

SORRY - the second line should read 2 * 1 = 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the answers that are in th ebook are completly diff than what i would get if i factored?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is {-1/3, 3/2}

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

so the factors are (3x + 1)(2x - 3) = 0 3x + 1 = 0 or 2x - 3 = 0 so x = -1/3 or x = 3/2 yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get those factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im conf

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

in my second post i was wotking out the factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

used *

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 and -2 are the factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

* -9
