When the system only has two variables you just substitute ex. y in terms of x

$$y=\frac{ x }{ 2 }+\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }$$
$$-2x-(\frac{ x }{ 2 }+\frac{ 1 }{ 2 })=7$$
