The expansion of the united states lead to an increase of tensions between the americans and the native american. With the building of the transcontential railroad, they had to go through the native american tribes land. To to do this, they either killed the native americans or place them into sanctions. The issues over whether or not new territories should have slavery or not turned into the Civil War was the major political conflict.
