Describe the biological purpose of meiosis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The biological function of meiosis is gamete formation; the production of cells qualified for sexual reproduction with half the quantity of chromosomes compared to the original cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks:D Could you help with another?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Draw and cut/paste the following using Paint or a picture 5. A human sperm cell (haploid) showing its correct number of chromosomes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Diploid animal cell for a common fruit fly that has four pairs of chromosomes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure what you need--a pic for illustration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah its for school but I think thats whats its for:/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright I need one more please. Same deal as in the whole picture thing but with this Diploid animal cell for a common fruit fly that has four pairs of chromosomes .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a good one for fruit flies--it's in their meiosis overview. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9a/Meiosis_Overview.svg/500px-Meiosis_Overview.svg.png

Thanks sooo much! I have a few more if thats ok, I just need to see if the answers are right: Identify different cells in the male and female body that undergo meiosis? Male (1 pt): Males go through a process called spermatocytes I, which will undergo meiosis. Female (1 pt): Females go through a process called oocytes which under goes meiosis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in Biology A Unit 4. Do you think I the answer I gave are good?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope unit four lesson 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Welll we might not go to the same school so could be why its different. But none the less here it is :) 3. Identify different cells in the male and female body that undergo meiosis? Male (1 pt): Female (1 pt):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright could you tell me what that would be please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you give the process, just need to add the cell types

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright and would this be the Connections Academy school book?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol we don't go to the same school. So should I put Males go through a process called spermatocytes I, which turns into sperm due to the process of meiosis? Sorry i'm a bit confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooo alright and I have one more. One specific pair of chromosomes determined your gender. Draw an example of what this pair of sex chromosomes looks like for you: I'm a girl so I know it would be XX but do I draw that or put something else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks sooooooo much!! :D
