What is the equation of the graph below? My answer is a y = -2(x - 3)2 + 1 y = -2(x + 3)2 + 1 y = 2(x - 3)2 + 1 y = 2(x + 3)2 + 1
So what is the vertex here?
3, 2, 1
Just to remind you: \(y = a(x - h)^2 + k\) :)
2?
Its easier if you try eliminating the ones that are not it.
god point RyanL
What you can do is find what makes the it concave up or concave down.
good*
My only option is D
;)
Yeah, you eliminate D.
why did you eliminate D?
When it's concave down, then the \(a\) should be negative.
I didn't eliminate D!
So basically, you only have 2 options in hand.
That's a very possible solution
Okay, let's eliminate from the start and not get mixed up
ok:)
you rock by the way
So is it concave up or down?
lol
up:)
... actually this is up:|dw:1355841187295:dw|(bad drawing, but you get the point :))
So the parabola in your question is actually concave down. Got it?
got it :) it tricked me ;)
Okay, so when the parabola is concave down, then the \(a\) is negative in this: \(y = a(x - h)^2 + k\)
got it ;)
So what would you eliminate?
A obviously
When you eliminate an option, you know that it'd not be an answer. :P
2 things, for future reference: 1) when you are writing an exponent use the "^" then the power. if you have a-d, list a,b,c,d then the associated responses. it will be easier to read. oterwise use the equation writer.
you have three pieces of information 1) it opens downwards, 2 it is shfited right on the x axis by 3 spaces, 3) it is pelleted upwards by one space. all you have to do is plug those into the equation that parth gave you. sign of a is upwards/downward, sign and number h is shift left or right, sign and number of k is shift up or down.
