FOR EXAMPLE: Let's say that you are given the equation 2x-y=6 If you were asked to put this in STANDARD form . . . You would need to get the Y by itself. 2x-y=6 -2x -2x ------------- -y=-2+6 Divide -1 by both sides and you are left with y= 2x-6

(-6 is the y-intercept.) x is the slope. So in this example your slope would be 2/1 or up 2, over 1
