John has finished his exercise routine. While exercising his heart rate increased. Now that the exercise is over his body will return his heart rate to normal. Give the Physiological explanation on why and how did this happen? Taking into consideration the effect of the autonomic nervous system on the heart. Hint: Think about cardiac output.

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Well, more oxygen is necessary for the other parts of your body to function. Therefore, the cardiac system needs to output additional work to provide that extra oxygen supply. Another way to look at it can be done at the microscopic level. For example, blood is composed of red blood cells. These cells carry oxygen. So, when exercise commences, the circulatory system needs to circulate more effectively and faster to carry these red blood cells all over the body.
