Please help......I have a test tomorrow and don't know how to do this.... 4(X^2-3)-2(x^2-5x+4) find x and evaluate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Will give medal=]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

check the problem again... is this supposed to be an equation???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its supposed to be a quadratic equation its on my study guide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where is the equal sign???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is none can you evaluate it instead?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is another on my study guide (4x-9)(5x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since there is no equal sign, there is no equation to solve for x... but we can find the value of that expression if we were given a value for x...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the instructions say to evaluate the expression.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok then.... they must give you a value for x in order to evaluate the expression... what's the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe they want you to create a table of different values of the expression for different values of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im supposed to use FOIL to evaluate the expression

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure if we are supposed to solve for X because it jsut says eevaulate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.... FOIL it is... btw... do you know what FOIL stands for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, you do not use foil to evaluate an expression..... you use FOIL to multiply (expand) the expression...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's use your second example: (4x-9)(5x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1355880426472:dw| ok... can you combine like terms to simplify the quadratic expression???
