Left over water is left to rot in your showers from the washing of your skin which contains bacteria. This bacteria sits in a a hot, damp room which is superb for the growth of bacteria
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Water doesn't 'rot' per se, but the warm damp environment does make your shower curtain the perfect home for bacteria and fungi.
