How does osmosis affect the mass of an egg when placed in corn syrup and then in water?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Osmosis involves the movement of water across a selectively-permeable membrane to reach pressure equilibrium. An egg in corn syrup will shrink and shrivel as water drains into the corn syrup to reach a solute concentration balance. Placing back in water will cause the egg to swell as water returns to again reach a solute concentration balance.
