A family has two cars. The first car has a fuel efficiency of 25 miles per gallon of gas and the second has a fuel efficiency of 20 miles per gallon of gas. During one particular week, the two cars went a combined total of 975 miles, for a total gas consumption of 45 gallons. How many gallons were consumed by each of the two cars that week?

I got 30 and 15 as an answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would this be correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lemme work it out. ill type out the steps first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set up two equations. x=first car's gallons consumed y=second car gallon consumed. x+y=45 25x+20y=975

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=15 y=30 you're right.
