find all the roots of the following polynomial x(cubed)-4x(squared)-2x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one root is -1 by hit and trial ............hope u can find the rest by horners method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please clarify further the horners method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or u can simply use division method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-1 is a root of given equation........ so (x+1) will be one of its factors..... so...........divide the given equation by x+1 u will get a quadratic equation then factorise it to get the roots

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you know that -1 is one of the roots?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hit and trial method we substitute arbitrary values like 0,1,-1,2,-2........... anad check which satisfies the given equation,,,,,,,,
