Solve algebraically: 5x-y=16 2x+3y=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the value of x from any equation in terms of y and put it in the other equation or vice-versa. Evaluate and you will get value of one variable, then put that value in any of these equation and you will get the value of other variable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I know HOW to do these. It's just whenever I over analyze it, I screw up completely. I'm no good at any ALG2 or PreCalc concepts by any means.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you know how to do these things, the its easy! Just stay calm! Write down the given things first, think about how you will do it (infact understand it) Then simply apply step by step.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think, u miscalculate or just follow the steps wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I typed something into the calculator wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then type again? :P nyways you should avoid using calculator in such simple ques, better do it yourself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe :P I have the tendency of combining elimination and substitution together. Anyways, the answer I came out with was (3,-1).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got that right! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It usually takes me like 8 tries to do these things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see basically there are 2 methods: 1. By only using substitution(the one i told u) 2. By multiplying and making same form(alternate method, should i tech u?) Don't use combining, just simply use substitution. u will get the ans in first try.

That would be lovely. I have another problem if you'd like to help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure.
