“Everything in this room is edible even me, but that my dear children is called cannibalism, And is frowned upon in most societies.” This said by Johnny Deep in Charlie and the chocolate factory. In the three films Charlie and the chocolate factory, Sleepy hollow and Edward scissorhands the director Tim Burton uses repetition of sentimental flashbacks and the use of outcasts to create an emotional connection to the audience. Tim Burton takes advantage of sentimental flashbacks to further the story more and give insight on the characters past, all the while creating an emotional connection with the audience whether that be getting them to hate or love the character. In the movie Charlie and the chocolate factory Tim Burton fills gaps in the story using flashbacks and makes the audience feel sympathetic towards Willy Wonka while in Edward scissorhands the entire story is just a flashback and uses even more flashbacks in the story so you the viewer feel sympathetic towards Edward. Another useful Technique Tim Burton uses is having an important character, as an outcast for example Edward was in solitude his whole life and Willy Wonka lived a large portion of his life in solitude with only the umpa lumpa’s to keep him company. Ichabod Crane however, was not kept away from other people in fact during the film you saw that he had contact with around many people but he was an outcast because he thought differently from others so they sent him away which in turn could cause the viewer to feel bad for them. In these two ways (using flashbacks and having an outcast), Tim Burton unwillingly gets you to have an emotional attachment to the characters from Charlie and the chocolate factory, Sleepy Hollow and Edward scissorhands whether that be a good thing or a bad one is your choice.

It sounds really good, and your choice of words are fantastic, using big words like sentimental and stuff like that should boost your grade.Your thesis should always have 3 points to it, try sticking another point into it :D then your essay will be perfect!! i love how you use 3 of my favorite movies and give an example of what they do :D GREAT JOB!!
