Which of the following describes the system of equations 2x - y + 4 = 0 and 4x - 2y + 7 = 0? A. inconsistent B. consistent and dependent C. consistent and independent D. none of these

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

How do you plan to solve it? I might be tempted t omultiply the first equation by 2 and then add the two equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you know which one it is?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I don't until I have run various tests and observed various properties. My inclination is to SOLVE the system. If I get x = 34 and y = 12, then I raise my hand and say "consistent and independent": If I get 3 = 2, then I raise my hand and say "inconsistent": If I get 4 = 4, then I raise my hand and say "consistent and dependent". Note: I made up these numbers. You must solve the system.
