If you understand it, why can't you code in it? If you can't code in it then there must be a fundamental problem in understanding it. Have you programmed in any other languages before?

Shan_munir, I think you meant you can read Scheme, but have difficulty in coding scheme?  Since Scheme is a programming language, one way to be better at it is to use this programming language to solve various problems.  The more you use the language, the more you know how to express solution(s) in this language.

There's a Lisp book primarily concerned with solving problems. It is called How To Design Programs and is freely available at http://htdp.org. Give that book a chance. Since you know Lisp quite well, you can begin at a later chapter --- for example, chapter 9.
