It was at ten o'clock to-day that the first of all Time Machines began its career. I gave it a last tap, tried all the screws again, put one more drop of oil on the quartz rod, and sat myself in the saddle. . . . I took the starting lever in one hand and the stopping one in the other, pressed the first, and almost immediately the second. I seemed to reel; I felt a nightmare sensation of falling; and, looking round, I saw the laboratory exactly as before. Had anything happened? For a moment I suspected that my intellect had tricked me. Then I noted the clock. A moment before, as it seemed, it it had stood at a minute or so past ten; now it was nearly half-past three! The main idea of this passage is that _____. Answer the time machine is a failure time machines work only if they have levers the time machine works time machines are like clocks
@nagdy1 can you help?
Wouldn't it be option D?
C. the time machine works
Its D time machines are like clocks
So D I was right? Thanks
ur welcome
it mentioned that it had a lever, but it wasn't focused on that. time machines arent like clocks at all, they are about time, but it didn't once mention how clocks and time machines are alike. and it said it worked, and that was the point. good luck and i hope i helped (:
no.. im pretty sure it's C. because clocks just tell you the time. time machines can take you to the past or future, clocks can't do that. and the clock was in the story to tell that the time machine worcked.
worked*
time machine is about clocks when you go to the past time machine changes the clock to the past and when you go to the future time changes with the clock to the future.time machine uses time thats why they called it "TIME machine"
yes, but clocks and time machines are very different. I mean, when you use a time machine, yeah, you're going to need to see a clock to see if it worked. in the beggining it talked about him touching it up and getting ready to test it out and VUALA! iT WORKED! He knew that because the clock had a different time on it.
If the passage were about how clocks and time machines were alike it would go more like this " time machines are like clocks. how, you might ask? well they both are about time, ofcorse. and blah blah blah bla"
best speech ever
But @nagdy1 your still right huh? lol
Lol, im not actually gonna write a whole speech.. but thanks! ahaha
