what and how does the cell membrane regulate? what three factors influonce this process?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The cell memebrane regulates itself by selecting what it takes in and takes out. This is due to it being selectivly permeable. Three factors that influence this are whether the enviroment outside of the cell has a high concentration of Na+. If so water in the cell would diffuse out causing it to shivel up. If the enviroment outside of the cell has a low concentration of NA+, then water would diffuse in causing the cell to swell. If the amount of h20 and Na+ are the same, the cell will remain in equialibrium and stay isotonic
