Why does the story of Snowball's supposed betrayal keep changing? Answer The story does not change Napoleon is only slowly discovering the truth. Snowball stories distract the animals from how bad conditions are. Napoleon could not blame the humans.

The story does change, and the stories are most certainly not the truth, so it is not A or B. Napoleon COULD blame the humans, but that would not benefit him. However, the conditions on the farm are horrible, but by blaming Snowball, the animals can accept them a bit more, and think, 'But it's not that bad, and any discomfort is due to Snowball.'
