1 2/5 = 7/5 and 4 2/3 = 14/3. Multiplying them is just top x top and bottom x bottom. So 7x14 on top and 5x3 on bottom.

What is it in a mixed number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does 1 2/5 mean 1 and 2/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is a mixed number. When you have a whole number and a fraction. Improper fractions is just a fraction with a bigger number on top.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

\[1\frac{ 2 }{ 5 } \times 4\frac{ 2 }{ 3 }\] \[\frac{ 1\times5+2 }{ denominator}\] by denominator, I mean the original denominator, which is 5 for the first one. Same with the second fraction \[\frac{ 4 \times 3 + 2 }{ 3 }\]
