OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mixed economy is an economic system in which both the state and private sector direct the economy, reflecting characteristics of both market economies and planned economies.[1] Most mixed economies can be described as market economies with strong regulatory oversight, and many mixed economies feature a variety of government-run enterprises and governmental provision of public goods.

Since the American Revolution, "we the people" have never really been fond to control. once we gained freedom, we decide to take matter's intonour own hands. Before the establishment of our mixed economy as we know it today, we used to generate revenue by merchantilism. mercantilism, however, wasn't the greatest way to gain money because we often at times got cheated out in the end. We needed a solution to thos problem...but what could we do? we decide that having to much freedom wouldn't work out because people we take advantage of the system and having tight regulations would just lead us back to square one. this is where a mixed economy came into play.A mixed economy is one that has both socialist aspects and one that has capitalistic aspects. In fact, there has never been such a thing as a pure capitalistic economy. In the case of America, such socialist aspects as diverse as regulation, taxes, and spending enforce themselves on a mainly capitalistic economy to create a mixed economy.
