factor x^3-512

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hint: use the difference of cubes rule a^3 - b^3 = (a - b)(a^2 + ab + b^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's 8?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

8 is part of it because 8^3 = 512 so essentially x^3-512 turns into x^3-8^3 and this is where the formula I wrote above starts to apply

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you can't see this, then let a = x and b = 8 and plug them into the difference of cubes formula

(x-8)*(X^2+8x+64)
