Help me with this please... An author with too much time on his hands weighed each chocolate candy in a 470 count bag. One of the chocolates weighed 0.776 and was heavier than 27 of the other candies. What is the percentile of the particular value?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

27/470 = .0574 so 0.776 is the 5.74 percentile

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yes fairly sure :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not saying your wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So when you calculate this, you divide the number it is compared to to the total number?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So,lets say 329... I would divide 329 to 470

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yes, if it was heavier than 329 of the other candies

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer would be 0.7...so would that come out to 7.0?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

no ... 0.7 = 70%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's right... sorry miscalculation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For 224/470 I cam up with 0.47659 how would that be broken down?
