- Find max shear strain due to a shear stress?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My knowledge of elasticity and strength of materials is rudimentary but this may help. Shear stress is equal to shear strain times the shear modulus which is a constant for a given material. The maximum strain would be due to a stress approaching the elastic limit for that material. So the maximum strain is the elastic limit divided by the shear modulus. Beyond this strain permanent deformation will occur.
