to graph linear equation, in this case...just let x=0 find y ...so you have 1 point...then let y=0, find x ...you have another point..connect 2 points to get your graph and compare.

-8x - 5y = 40
5y = -8x - 40
y = -8/5x - 40/5
y = -8/5x - 8

So you have a 'basenumber' at x=0 of -8, and your slope is -8/5

If you now fill in some number (like x=0), what answer do you get?
