Match the equation with its graph. –8x – 5y = 40 *Links of Graphs Below* A. http://i.imgur.com/xQT1Z.jpg B. http://i.imgur.com/S3Fys.jpg C. http://i.imgur.com/VME9z.jpg D. http://i.imgur.com/QuGtg.jpg
to graph linear equation, in this case...just let x=0 find y ...so you have 1 point...then let y=0, find x ...you have another point..connect 2 points to get your graph and compare.
Simplify your equation: -8x - 5y = 40 5y = -8x - 40 y = -8/5x - 40/5 y = -8/5x - 8 So you have a 'basenumber' at x=0 of -8, and your slope is -8/5
I do have an answer already, i am simply looking for what others answer to it are, to see if i am wrong or not. I keep forgetting to say that.
Why the insecurity?
Insecurity? If you want my answer, it is B. Is this correct?
Like tamtoan said: fill in some numbers, and you can't be wrong.
No
y = -8/5x - 8 Use this formula, it is written in a different manner. If you now fill in some number (like x=0), what answer do you get?
Also: the way it is written (y = -8/5x - 8), you can see that the slope is negative. So the line must go DOWNwards (from the upperleft, to the lowerright)
Now my answer to it is C. I forgot it was negative.
;) alright, nice
Thank you.
