OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i never learned that yet

OpenStudy (kainui):

Write out the first 4 terms and I'll help you understand why.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f

OpenStudy (kainui):

So basically the big backwards E thing is called Sigma and it just means sum. To sum up the terms you just plug in 1, plug in 2, plug in 3, etc... and add them all up. You can't add up an infinite amount of terms (without clever tricks) and so we call certain series different things because they act similarly. A geometric series is one where each next term has a common ratio. 2+4+8+16+... We can look at the ratio of the first two: 4/2=2 and the ratio of the next: 8/4=2 and the next... 16/8=2 and see, AHA! This is a geometric series.

false?so it is true?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Nevermind.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would go with false
