Kellie is right, innovation, but allow me to elaborate;

Innovation is when you're creating something new, something your competition doesn't already have, if a company is focusing mostly on research and developing whole new products, then they're based on innovation as opposed to say price competition, which is where they just re-create old inventions with a few tweaks and lower the price below their competitors.
