OpenStudy (asylum15):

- Find the maximum stress in a circular cantilever which is subjected to a load of 30N at its free end. The diameter of the cantilever is 12mm. HELP! :(

OpenStudy (asylum15):

Biomedical Engineering.

OpenStudy (asylum15):

Why?

OpenStudy (asylum15):

Just wondering why you asked :)

OpenStudy (asylum15):

Any idea how to solve ? :|

OpenStudy (asylum15):

I've done numerous questions like these, but never been given 2 variables where one is load.

OpenStudy (hba):

Do you have an idea how you will do it ?

OpenStudy (asylum15):

Nah, it's so different to Qs I've done previously. It's one out of 100 i can't do :(

OpenStudy (mathmate):

First find the bending moment at the support of the cantilever: M=PL (L=length of cantilever, and also distance from load P to the support) \( \sigma_{max} = My/I\) where I=area moment of the cross section y=maximum distance from the neutral axis = radius of the cantilever. What you will have calculated will be in terms of L (length of cantilever) since it is not given. By the way, this question belongs to structural or mechanical engineering.
