what happens to the collision of particles as the temperature of a substance increases? decreases? [sorry for the chemistry question in the math section..]

Temperature is just the average speed of the particles. If the average speed increases, will they collide more or less? Consider bumper cars that traveled as fast as a snail, and bumper cars that traveled as fast a bullet.
