the cost of operating an appliance varies jointly as the number of watts drawn, the hours of operation and the cost per kilowatt hour. At Php 1.75 per kilowatt hour, how much woul it cost when a 500-watt waffle iron operates for 45 minutes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u answer it pat?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is Php?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

peso sir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a 500 watt waffle iron uses 500 watts an hour. 1 kilowatt is 1000 watts. You can not determine the cost of using the waffle iron without knowing the cost of the electrical supply.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 1.75 pesos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u know the answer now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have never seen Php referring to pesos. Alright so what that is stating is that 1000 watts cost 1.75 pesos. Which means 1.75/1000 = 0.00175 peso per watt. The 500 watt waffle iron will use 500 watts in one hour or 125 watts every 15 minutes. So in 45 minutes it will use 375 watts. 375 * 0.00175 = 0.65625 Pesos.

tnx so much sir

btw, php i mean is philippine peso

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahh I see... The peso (Filipino: piso) (sign: ₱; code: PHP) is the currency of the Philippines.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sir... :D
