In order to find the independent clause, the sentence must be able to stay alone in the sentence. For example, "Gary did not receive the reward money" can stand alone in a sentence, while "Although Cale is fairly sure about the next move" cannot. Another tip is to review all of the subordinating conjunctions and to try committing them to memory.
