I really don't think that advertisements MUST use realistic images. Have you ever seen those commercials where they use cartoon characters, in order to advertise food, or toys? Like the Trix yogurt advertisements, for example: http://www.generalmillsfoodservice.com/~/media/Images/304x267/Yoplait_Trix_Yogurt_with_Rabbit.ashx "Silly rabbit! Trix are for kids!" The Trix rabbit is a big part of Yoplait's advertising campaign, for Trix yogurt. But he doesn't look so realistic to me.
