Josephine started a business selling cosmetics. She spent $4500 to obtain her merchandise, and it costs her $200 per week for general expenses. She earned $550 per week in sales. What is the minimum number of weeks it will take for Josephine to make a profit? Solve the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's make an equation that expresses Josephine's profits.\[P=(550-200)W-4500\]where W is the number of weeks. Just solve the equation for when P=0.

She spent 4500, so that's what she needs to go over. it costs her 200 a week, so -200x where x = weeks earns 550 a week, so +550x. So now you write an equation, actually an inequality, because she needs to make more than 4500. 4500<550x+200x Solve for x

ok... so whats the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to solve one of the equations. Either way will work. We can't just give out the answers though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but i dont understand it, like at all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, with mine all your going to do now is add the 550x and the 200x and then you have 4500<750x and just solve for x

ooohh thank you :)
