Does the equation y = 8(0.9)x represent growth or decay?

is it:
\[\large y=8(0.9)^x\]

if so it will be decay, because, multiply a number that is less than one by another number less than one (ie. itself) will result in smaller numbers. therefore as x increase the value of y will decrease
