how do you change a fraction or a decimal into a mixed number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For an improper fraction you would just divide the numerator by the denominator until it doesn't divide anymore. The answer you get will go on the outside, and the remainder will go back into the fraction. For example: 11/4 Divide 11 by 4 4 goes into 11 twice so we write a 2 And whatever is left over (3) goes back over the denominator. So 11/4 = 2 and 3/4

For a normal decimal you could use the placeholder value to determine the fraction. For example: 0.253 The last digit here is in the 'thousandths' place, so you could write this as 253/1000
