Which expression represents the largest number? And could you explain it to me? I'm having a hard time understand Exponents and Exponential Functions.. 40.1 x 10–6 4.1 x 10–7 0.411 x 10–7 0.04001 x 10–5
4.1 x 10-7
First try writing everything in scientific notation. Like y.x * 10^z
Well since the largest number is the one with the largest exponent since -5 > either -6 or -7, I kinda thought it would be A.
B is the answer.
no, it's not B.
The problem is that not all numbers are aligned correctly.
Hence why I said, write everything in scientific notation
A is correct in this case, but generally you want to align the numbers correctly, then you look at exponents.
or rather, standard scientific notation eg: a * 10^b where |a|<10
(A)40100000 (B)41000000 pls tell me again that the answer is A bro
Answer is B not A period.
Put on your glasses and see the - in the exponent, bro
If was negative esponents then should look like 10^-7
40.1 x 10^-6 = 4.01 x 10^-5 4.1 x 10^-7 = 4.1 x 10^-7 0.411 x 10^-7 = 4.11 x 10^-8 0.04001 x 10^-5 = 4.001 x 10^-7
@argos some people use the notation without the ^ are you telling me you thought a - sign was a ^ sign? How on earth can you think that?
40.1 x 10^-6 is 4.01 x 10^-5 4.1 x 10^-7 0.411 x 10^-7 is 4.11 x 10^-8 0.04001 x 10^-5 is 4.001 x 10^-7 So are these the notations? So would that make the largest number the first one?
yes
fram my country double "--" is use sometime to represent a ^
Look at what I wrote above. Change all numbers to standard scientific notation, a x 10^b, where 0<=a<10, multiplied by 10 to power b. Then the lower the exponent is, the smaller the number is. 10^-8 is less than 10^-7 which is lees that 10^-5. The smallest number is C, and the largest number is A.
@raeofsunshine Yes, the first number is largest
@mathstudent55 |a| < 10 :)
