Choose the correct description of the solution to the inequality x − 16 > 5x. i think its A Open circle on −4, shading to the left. Closed circle on −4, shading to the left. Open circle on −4, shading to the right. Closed circle on −4, shading to the right.
You are correct! Good job!
Good luck in all of your studies and thx for the recognition! @briszabo
i need help on another one if u dont mind i think i got this one right but im not postive Choose the correct description of the graph of the inequality −x < 3. i think its C but im doubting myself Open circle on 3, shading to the left. Closed circle on −3, shading to the left. Open circle on −3, shading to the right. Closed circle on 3, shading to the right
Closed circle on −3, shading to the left.
It's the 3rd option.
thats what i thought it was the 3rd one but Soty2013 r u sure
The reason it's the 3rd one: −x < 3 -> x > -3 (after multiplying both sides by -1 and reversing sign)
what i did was basically divided -1 by 3 and got -3 and i thought that if u divided or mutiply with a negative u switch the sign
You are right in that dividing or multiplying by a negative reverses the sign. That's the main learning point in this problem. The other learning point is that "<" or ">" by itself gives an open circle. If you add "=" to either, then you will get the closed circle.
ya i also know that to if something is equal to or less than its closed and if something is equal to or greater then its also closed and there always open if the signs are just less than or greater than
Looks like you are understanding this pretty well.
ya i do understand the concept of it its just harder to do once i see the promblem
Sometimes people freeze up when asked to demonstrate their understanding. That's just a matter of confidence and practice. I wouldn't worry too much, because you do understand this stuff, it's just that you're maybe a little nervous about it. With math, like with other studies, concentration and focus will help, but you have to practice concentration with calmness. What I mean to say is that we ALL have to do that. You're coming along fine.
alright thanx im just so worried about trying to pass this test im like stressing out
I'll tell you something about studying and learning: I have a brother who is a PhD. in educational psychology and you might not believe it, but "brightness" is achieved by some pretty common-sense steps. Any person can actually boost his/her own IQ. It's largely a matter of memory, concentration, visualization, and focus. But these things have to be practiced. And you will make strides through confidence gained by setting intermediary goals, achieving them, and going on to bigger goals.
I'm sure I didn't tell you anything here with this that you didn't know already, but sometimes, it takes another person to see how the other person works and thinks to encourage or coach that person. And to be done non-judgmentally. That's key. So, do hang in there. If you try and are calm, you will achieve because your sub-concious will help you along. Especially when you can relax to the point of attaining alpha-wave "daydreaming"! Believe it or not, a lot of genius is shown by "mind-wandering" in a focused way.
