. A discount store takes 50% off of the retail price of a desk. For the store's holiday sale, it takes an additional 20% off of all furniture. The desk's retail price was $320. How much is the desk on sale for during the holiday sale? i first took .50 times 320 (to find 50% off of retail price) which i got 160. then took 160 times .20 but got 32.00... what the did i do wrong? the answer is 128 because the website tells you the correct answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(320*.50) - (320*.50)*.20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did u put it like that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

160 - 32 = 128

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did u get .80

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just copy the answer is better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i need to know how to do this bc im taking the TEAS test to enter the nursing program

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so when i read the problem i got how u put 320(.50) but what is gonna tell me in the problem to do the second step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the store's holiday sale, it takes an additional 20% off of all furniture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so first u take 50% off of 320, so 320*.50 = 160

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes then i took that price and took 20% off

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya thas rite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what tells me to subtract 160 and 32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32 is 20% of 160

OpenStudy (anonymous):
