The m

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

do you have a diagram to match the question...?

|dw:1357271584537:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that 560 or 56 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x+2+7x-12=56 solve for x, then plug x into the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you still need help with this, @Kagome_gurl8 ? I noticed you bumped your question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I know how to put the equation together but i don't know how to solve for x....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so we have the equation 4x + 2 + 7x - 12 = 56, as provided by @dancechick76 . Do you know how to combine like terms on the left side of the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to add toether like terms. You have 2 numbers with x's. Combining those would give you 11x. Do you see where we're going?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the next step would be to combine 4 and (-12).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, you have 4x and 7x. 4 + 7 is 11, so you would get 11x. And then you can combine the other like terms, 4 and -12. What would you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you would get -16 if the 4 was a negative 4. But since it is positive, you have to add 4 to -12. If I owe you 12 dollars and I pay you 4, how many more dollars do I owe you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8, sorry the website bugged out on me
