Determine the ratio and express the answer as a fraction in lowest terms: 5 hours to 250 minutes

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no clue!

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Can you compare apples to oranges?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

One number, 5 is in hours; while the other number 250 is in minutes, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Since you are asked in the question to "Determine the ratio" you should change one of them to match the others time unit, right?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

... because you are asked to "express the answer as a fraction in lowest terms:" where you will be cancelling common factors from the numerator and denominator and you can't cancel an apple with an orange :)

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Recall: 1 hour = 60 minutes

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

This can be written as (1 hour/60 minutes) or (60 minutes/1 hours) both ratios equal 1, right?
