George Johnson invested some money at 3.5% interest, and $5000 more than three times this amount at 4%. He earned $1440 in interest. How much did he invest at 4%?

OpenStudy (mrdoe):

ok so conver to decimal so we can use in the eq and let x=the amount invested at 3.5%, so we get 0.035x+0.04(3x+5000)=1440 and solve for x, than plug it into 3x=5000 to find the amount invested at 4%
