In Cu, can electrons in 3d band contribute to conduction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean 3rd orbit??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3d, since when considering the conduction in Cu we need to focus on 4s and 3d, the outer orbitals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it dont coz there is a attraction force between nucleous and electrons.. this force is stronger 4 nearer orbits..and weaker 4 outer orbits.. thus electon(s) of outer orbit takes part in conduction process..

That's right. In details, how to explain that 3d orbitals cannot contribute to conduction since the band is full.
