does Heat affect functionality of a Hard Disk Drive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes... basically your hard disc drive is a silicon chip... every silicon chip have certain working conditions termed as process, variation and temperature. Coming to temperature the three variants are -5 C, 40 C and 125 C. When your chip is manufactured with some functionality they will design in such a way that, it will perform its operations under these temperatures with slight variations. If the temperature ramps up then there are good chances of functional errors.
