OpenStudy (sepeario):

When a whole number is divided by 17, the answer is between 2/3 and 3/4. Find the number. Could you guys please help me with this question?

Parth (parthkohli):

Exactly between, or somewhere in the middle?

Parth (parthkohli):

I hate ambiguity!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try to set up inequalities like n/17 > 2/3 n/17 < 3/4 you will get a range of values

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in this range of values, only one is an integer. this will be the answer

OpenStudy (sepeario):

Thanks, @binarymimic but is there a possibly more simple way of doing this?

Parth (parthkohli):

No, that's what I thought of as well.

OpenStudy (sepeario):

Thanks anyways @ParthKohli and @binarymimic

Parth (parthkohli):

Trial-and-error is another way though.

Parth (parthkohli):

The approximation tricks.

OpenStudy (sepeario):

Yes, probably not the fastest @ParthKohli

Parth (parthkohli):

I did an approximation trick first and got \(12\).

Parth (parthkohli):

Although I like formalized answers =)

OpenStudy (sepeario):

Same @ParthKohli

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the method described is pretty simple n/17 > 2/3 means n > 34/3 means n > 11.33 n/17 < 3/4 means n < 51/4 means n < 12.75 so what integer is greater than 11.33 and less than 12.75

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes, I like that way.

Parth (parthkohli):

I'm not sure how I got those medals... I just noticed I did! :O

Parth (parthkohli):

I got those medals before I answered 12.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup! Ok guys, remember to close the question so that this flows more smoothly!
