1.Give the coordinates of two points on the line x = 5. 2.Give the coordinates of two points on the line y = -2. 3.Write the equation of the horizontal line passing through the point (-1, -8). 4.Write the equation of the vertical line passing through the point (3, 1). 5.Is the line with equation x = 4 horizontal or vertical? What is the slope of this line? 6.Is the line with equation y = -8 horizontal or vertical? What is the slope of this line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. (5,0) and (5,1) 2. (3,-2) and (-5, -2) 3. Y= -8 4.x = 3 5. vertical. slope undefined 6. horizontal. slope zero

thanks! but i dont understan why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if x =5 , no matter what point you use at that line... you will always have coordinates (5,_) because x MUST be 5 so you will get a vertical line. If y is =-8, then all points on that line will be (_,-8). it will be a horizontal line because y must be 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slope is undefined in it is a vertical line because it technically has an infinite rise over no run. Slope is zero when it is a horizontal line as it has no rise over run Example > \[\frac{ 0 }{ 5 }\]
